What Happens on Installation Day: Our Office Furniture Process
Short answer: On installation day the team unloads and checks the material, marks the layout on the floor, assembles workstations and storage, levels and aligns everything, routes power and data cables through the furniture, fits accessories, cleans up and then walks the floor with you to note any pending points. A small office takes two to three days; larger floors take about a week. Installation goes smoothly when flooring, painting and electrical points are finished before the furniture arrives.
Most of the work in an office furniture project happens out of sight in the workshop. Installation is the part you see, and it is where good planning pays off. Here is the process we follow, and what you can do to make the day easy.
Before installation: is the site ready?
We ask clients to confirm this checklist a few days in advance:
- Flooring complete and cured; carpet tiles or vinyl laid
- Final coat of paint done in the furniture areas
- False ceiling, lighting and air-conditioning complete
- Power and data feeds available at each workstation run, as per the layout
- No other trade doing dusty work on the floor
- Building permission for material movement, with timings
- Service lift booked; lift and door sizes shared with us
- A clear, lockable area to stack material
- One person from your side available for decisions
If furniture arrives before the floor is ready, it gets shifted around, scratched and covered in dust. The correct order of site work is explained in our office fit-out guide.
Installation day, step by step
1. Delivery and unloading
Panels arrive flat-packed, wrapped and labelled by area. The team moves them to the floor within the building’s permitted hours. In many Pune commercial buildings and IT parks, material movement is allowed only early in the morning, late in the evening or on weekends, so we plan the truck around that.
2. Material check
Packages are counted against the dispatch list, and tops, legs, partitions and hardware are sorted by row.
3. Floor marking
Using the approved drawing, the team marks the position of each run on the floor with tape. This is the moment to confirm the layout on the ground, before anything is fixed.
4. Assembly of the structure
Legs, frames and partitions go up first, starting from the feed point where power and data enter the row.
5. Tops and storage
Table tops are fixed, pedestals placed, and storage units assembled and positioned against walls.
6. Levelling and alignment
Floors are never perfectly flat. Each leg has a leveller that is adjusted so that tops line up, partitions are straight and drawers do not roll open by themselves. This step separates a neat installation from an average one.
7. Cable routing
Power and data cables are laid in the raceway or under-desk trays, kept in separate channels, and brought up through wire managers at each seat. We coordinate with your electrician and IT vendor, who make the final connections.
8. Accessories
Keyboard trays, CPU trolleys, monitor arms, pin-up boards, name plates and locks are fitted.
9. Cabins, meeting rooms and reception
Cabin tables, credenzas, the conference table and the reception desk are assembled. Long tables come in sections and are joined on site.
10. Cleaning
Protective film is removed, surfaces are wiped and packing material is cleared.
11. Walkthrough and handover
We walk the floor with your coordinator, check each area against the order and write down anything pending. Keys are labelled and handed over.
How long does installation take?
| Office size | Typical installation time |
|---|---|
| Up to 20 seats | 2 to 3 days |
| 20 to 50 seats | 4 to 7 days |
| 50 to 100 seats | 1 to 2 weeks |
These are general figures and assume a ready site and normal working hours. Restricted timings stretch the schedule. The full project timeline is covered in how long it takes to furnish a new office in Pune.
What should you check before signing off?
- Count: seats, pedestals, cabinets and tables match the order.
- Alignment: tops are level and in line; partitions are straight.
- Stability: no wobble when you lean on a desk or partition.
- Drawers and doors: open fully, close smoothly, gaps are even.
- Locks: every lock works; keys are labelled; master key received.
- Edges and surfaces: no chips, lifted edge banding or deep scratches.
- Cables: routed inside trays and raceways; covers fitted.
- Clearances: aisles and chair space as per the drawing.
- Finish: laminates match the approved samples.
- Clean-up: film and packing removed.
Note anything that is not right on the snag list with a date for completion. Small touch-ups are normal; they should be closed quickly.
What can go wrong, and how do we avoid it?
| Problem | Prevention |
|---|---|
| Long tops do not fit in the lift | Lift size taken at the site visit; tops made in sections |
| Floor box in the wrong place | Electrical layout checked against the furniture drawing before production |
| Uneven floor | Levellers on every leg; shims where needed |
| A panel damaged in transit | Edge and corner protection in packing; nearby workshop for quick replacement |
| Other trades still working | Site readiness confirmed before dispatch |
Being based in Dhanori helps with the fourth point. For offices in Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar, Kharadi, Yerawada and Wagholi, a replacement panel can usually be made and brought back without holding up the rest of the work.
After installation
- Let adhesives and sealants settle for a day before loading heavy items.
- Spread weight evenly in storage; put heavy files on lower shelves.
- Keep the layout drawing and key list on file.
- Report loose handles or sticking drawers early; they are quick to fix.

Frequently asked questions
Does the office need to be empty during installation?
The furniture area should be clear and free of other work. In a running office, installation can be done in sections or outside working hours.
Who connects the power and network to the workstations?
The furniture team routes cables through raceways and trays. Final electrical and network connections are made by your electrician and IT vendor, in coordination with us.
Can furniture be installed on weekends?
Yes, and many buildings prefer it. Check your building’s rules on working hours and lift use and share them in advance.
