How Long Does It Take to Furnish a New Office in Pune?

How Long Does It Take to Furnish a New Office in Pune?

Short answer: For made-to-order modular furniture, a small office of up to about 20 seats typically takes around three to four weeks from approved drawings to handover, and a 50-seat office around five to six weeks. Larger floors take longer. Production is the biggest block of time; installation itself is usually only a few days. The fastest way to shorten the schedule is to approve the layout and finishes quickly and have the site ready on the agreed date.

These are general planning figures for the Pune market, not a promise for every project. Your actual dates depend on the design, the finishes and the workshop’s order book at the time, so always ask for a written schedule. What follows explains where the time goes.

The furniture timeline, stage by stage

Stage What happens Typical duration Who controls it
1. Site visit and measurement Floor measured; columns, power points and AC marked 1 to 2 days Manufacturer
2. Layout and quote Scaled layout with seat count and an itemised quote 2 to 4 days Manufacturer
3. Revisions and approval Changes to layout, sizes and finishes; order confirmed A few days to a few weeks Client
4. Material procurement Boards, laminates, hardware and partitions ordered 3 to 7 days (longer for special finishes) Manufacturer and suppliers
5. Production Cutting, edge banding, drilling, assembly checks, packing 1 to 4 weeks depending on size Manufacturer
6. Delivery Transport and shifting material to the floor 1 to 2 days Manufacturer and building
7. Installation Assembly, levelling, cable routing 2 to 7 days depending on size Manufacturer
8. Snagging and handover Final checks, small fixes, cleaning 1 to 2 days Both

Notice stage 3. In our experience the approval stage is where most projects lose time, and it is entirely in the client’s hands.

Rough overall timelines by office size

Office size From approved drawings to handover
Up to 20 seats About 3 to 4 weeks
20 to 50 seats About 4 to 6 weeks
50 to 100 seats About 6 to 8 weeks
100 seats and above Usually phased; plan 8 weeks or more

Add the time you expect to spend on revisions and approvals before this clock starts.

What speeds things up?

  • One decision-maker. Approvals by committee are slow.
  • Standard sizes and stock laminates. Common finishes are available immediately; special ones may need to be ordered.
  • Final seat count before production. Adding four seats midway restarts part of the work.
  • Furniture ordered while interiors are in progress. Production runs in parallel with site work. Our office fit-out guide shows how the stages overlap.
  • A site that is ready on time. Flooring and painting complete, power available, lift booked.
  • A nearby workshop. Short transport and same-day correction of any panel that needs a change.

What slows things down?

  1. Layout changes after approval
  2. Late selection of laminates and fabrics
  3. Imported or special-order hardware and finishes
  4. Electrical and data points that do not match the desk layout
  5. Building restrictions on working hours, noise and lift use
  6. Other trades still working on site, so furniture cannot be placed
  7. Monsoon and festival periods, when transport and labour are tighter. Before Diwali, many businesses want their offices ready at the same time, so order earlier than usual.

How to plan backwards from your move-in date

Start with the day you want people at their desks and work back:

  1. Move-in day.
  2. Minus 3 to 4 days: IT setup, network testing and cleaning.
  3. Minus 1 to 2 weeks: furniture installation and snagging.
  4. Minus 3 to 6 weeks: production.
  5. Minus 1 week more: procurement.
  6. Before that: layout, quote and your approval.

For a 30-seat office this means the furniture order should be confirmed roughly six to eight weeks before move-in. If you are already inside that window, tell the manufacturer at the first call; there are ways to compress the schedule, such as using stock finishes and delivering the work area first and the meeting rooms a week later.

Need it faster?

  • Phase the delivery. Workstations first, cabins and reception next.
  • Simplify finishes. One laminate, standard partitions.
  • Avoid custom shapes in the first phase.
  • Use ready stock for a few urgent seats, and made-to-order for the rest. We explain when each makes sense in our post on buying office furniture direct from a manufacturer.
